Daily Update

President Trump nominates R. Alexander Acosta as Labor Secretary.  On a quick view  of his background, Acosta seems like an excellent choice..  Acosta is a  former law clerk for Justice Alito when Alito was on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals  and has also served as a member of the NLRB, he is a Harvard Law School graduate and specializes in employment and labor issues. From  1998 to 2000 Acosta was a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. and in 2008 he was named to the list of 100 most influential individuals in business ethics.

The Detroit News editorial will make progressives’ heads spin:  Puzder was right on minimum wage.  There was another article in the Detroit News that caught my eye, Greg McNeilly, the head of Michigan’s Freedom Fund indicated that Dems risk becoming a permanent minority in Michigan but if you read his article, it isn’t all that different than New York.

The NY Post editorial offers this:  Offing Andy Puzder will likely only feed Democrats’ blood lust. However, President Trump just out-maneuvered them with the Acosta nomination … the Chess Game continues.   Conrad Black opines on President Trump’s first month in the NY Sun.

In the United States and Canada, a sanctuary city is a municipality that has adopted a policy of protecting unauthorized immigrants by not prosecuting them for violating federal immigration laws and by ensuring that all residents have access to city services, regardless of immigration status. Illegal immigration is the migration of people across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country.  What part of these two definitions does Senator Jesse Hamilton not understand?    When he accepted the position of State Senator he had to sign this, attesting to upholding the US and State Constitutions.  So please explain, Senator Hamilton,  how you are upholding the US Constitution, abiding by the rule of law, when you declare that your Senate District is a “Sanctuary Senate District?”

Daily Update

The US National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine says it will be acceptable to modify human embryos destined for implantation in the womb.  What a Pandora’s Box!!  Every woman who carries a child wants their baby to be healthy, every husband and wife have the expectation that their child will be able to have a healthy, normal life.  But some parents know there is the possibility of genetics disrupting their expectations and will grasp at anything that will eliminate the cause of a baby being born with a genetic abnormality.  If we open this Pandora’s Box, we create a slippery slope that elitists will use to create designer babies.  We rang the clarion bell when abortion was normalized, but people said we were overreacting.  We were not wrong then, nor are we wrong now.  The Us National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine must not be allowed to pursue this course…every child is perfect even when born with imperfect genes for they are the ones who love us unconditionally and teach us so much. No matter how many safeguards may be put in place, once the method of genetic engineering is perfected, nefarious opportunists will abound.

There are other ways to help end genetic abnormalities…cord blood research is promising.  Read about it here.   A special thank you to Sen. John DeFrancisco for all he has done to advance the saving of cord blood.

This is interesting, the IBEW Local 58 (in Michigan) wanted their union membership to show a photo ID if they wanted to resign from their membership.  (It has been struck down by the NLRB).  I find it interesting that a big labor union would require a photo ID to resign, yet a photo ID to vote is considered burdensome.

Speaking of the US Supreme Court,  a review this weekend showed that none of Gorsuch’s opinions were overturned by Supreme Court.  The Daily Signal thinks Gorsuch is Trump’s best revenge for judicial activism.

Weekly Wrap-Up

It’s too soon to say that #Resistance is futile, but Democrats are consistently losing battles in their war against Donald Trump.

How would you describe the left’s crusade against President Trump and his cabinet nominees?  That’s the first question in our new Weekly Poll.

The second question focuses on cabinet secretaries, as three of President Trump’s picks who are among the most hated by liberals won confirmation this week: Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, Tom Price as head of Health and Human Services, and Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.

Of the Trump cabinet secretaries confirmed as of February 10, who do you believe will have the MOST success in strengthening America?

One of the biggest news stories this week is the judicial war against President Trump – specifically the courts’ crusade against the President’s (totally legal) immigration order.

National Review explains why this is a particularly troubling turn of events – though the fact that our courts have become so politicized and unaccountable is troubling enough.

What concerns you most about activist liberal judges? That’s the third and final question in our new Weekly Poll – and there’s plenty to be concerned about.

Meanwhile, refugees see an opening and are pouring into our nation while they still can.

And not surprisingly, new research shows that illegal immigrants are clustered in just a handful of urban areas – mainly “sanctuary” cities. Can you guess where New York City ranks on the list? A first-place finish for the Big Apple is not surprising, given that Mayor de Blasio has gone so far as to give drunk driving a green light for illegal aliens.

Have a great weekend!

On to more important things,   The Daily Signal informs us that more than 100 sanctuary cities across America received a total of $27 billion in federal funds in one year of which $7.6 billion goes to NYC.  Look at the chart and realize how much of a hole the NYC budget will have if President Trump withholds funds because NYC insists it should be a sanctuary city.

CONSERVATIVES CALL ON LEGISLATURE TO PUT THE RIGHTS OF CITIZENS FIRST

Brooklyn, NY — Chairman Michael R. Long urged the Members of the New York State Assembly to put the rights of citizens first and reject the proposal to make the cities in New York State and the state itself sanctuary places.

The Conservative Party also believes that the rights of citizenship also extend to students who are college bound. Scholarships and financial aid should be limited to those who are citizens or who have come here legally.

The rule of law must be what guides government; not the dismissal of what has made this country and state the beacon to the underprivileged.

The legislative memo’s follows:

In Opposition to:

A. 3049- B – Moya (On Assembly Committee Agenda)

Purpose: An Act to amend the executive law and the judiciary law, in relation to access to services, law enforcement and counsel in certain immigration related matters; and to amend the judiciary law, in relation to compensation of legal counsel for certain matters.

Party Position: The New York State Conservative Party is a strong supporter of the fact that states have the right to pass laws unique to their needs that are not defined in the United States Constitution. However, this proposal, albeit that it states in its justification that it complies with federal law, seeks to ensure that people are not unnecessarily questioned about immigration status, establish that state or local law enforcement agencies shall not stop, question, investigate or arrest a person based on perceived immigration status or suspected violation of federal immigration law; generally prohibit law enforcement agencies from inquiring about the immigration status of person contacting such agencies when in need of assistance, including victims and witnesses; require state and local agencies and their employees to maintain the confidentially of immigration status information, unless acting in accordance with 8 U.S.C. Section 1373, and other information absent valid immigration detainer or related request has been filed; curtail the use of state and local facilities for the purposes of federal immigration enforcement and establish a right to legal representation for person subject to removal or deportation proceedings.

In other words, it seeks to make New York State a sanctuary state, where those who have entered illegally will be afforded the privileges granted to its citizens.

Government’s primary role is to protect its citizens by upholding the rule of law. The fact that people have entered the United States and New York State by breaking the rule of law should not grant them the same rights that citizens have. This bill seeks to change this fundamental fact.

The New York State Conservative Party urges a NO vote on this bill.

LM 2017-003

In Opposition to:

A 3039 – Moya (On Assembly Agenda) S. 471-A – Peralta

Purpose: This bill seeks to advance the educational opportunities to the children of immigrants by providing scholarships to college bound students. The bill also eliminates potential financial obstacles to obtaining State financial aid and extend the opportunities for certain immigrant students to attend higher education institutions in this state; providing a benefit consistent with U. S. citizens and nationals. It also seeks to eliminate barriers for immigrant aliens to save for their families by allowing such individuals to open a NYS 529 family tuition account.

Party Position: America’s uniqueness is treating law-abiding citizens equally, however, as the purpose of this bill clearly states, it seeks to “provide a benefit consistent with U. S. citizens and nationals.” It seeks to give students who are not U. S. citizens and nationals scholarships and financial aid who are in our country without following the procedures required to enter America and start a path to citizenship.

By providing scholarships and financial aid to certain immigrant students, our own citizens, who also struggle financially, may be denied their dreams of attending college, thereby undermining the very essence of everything America stands for.

We are a nation of immigrants, we are proud of that fact, and of the privilege’s we provide our citizens both born here and naturalized. We cannot demoralize the hopes and dreams of those who follow our immigration laws and start providing scholarships and financial aid to students who are in our country illegally, albeit through no fault of their own.

Citizenship has its privileges. We understand the necessity of education, however, providing scholarships and financial aid is an opportunity that must be reserved to those who live by our laws.

The Conservative Party of New York State urges the Members of the Legislature to abide by our U. S. Constitution, an oath freely taken, and reject this bill.

LM 2017-004

Weekly Wrap-Up

All week we’ve seen how President Trump is short-circuiting Washington, through the truly radical act of keeping his campaign promises. Will the left lose it every time the President simply does what he said he was going to do?

Donald Trump has accomplished quite a bit in his first weeks in office – how happy are you by his leadership right now? And what would you say is President Trump’s most important action so far? Those are the first two questions in our new Weekly Poll.

The media and liberal activists (but I repeat myself) are responding to the Trump shake-up with fake news, fake news, and more fake news

And talk about fake: New York’s own Chuck Schumer cried “crocodile tears” over President Trump’s so-called “Muslim ban” or “immigration ban.”  And will he be sobbing uncontrollably at the news that Americans actually support the President’s actions?

Make no mistake, there’s plenty for Schumer to be sad about – from the Democrats’ electoral misfortunes to the complete failure of policies he advocates. What do you think Sen. Schumer should really be crying over? That’s the third and final question in our new Weekly Poll.

The latest Paris attack may once again prove President Trump right about his concerns over America’s security. The President advised the nation to “get smart” after the Louvre attack, and if you ask me America started getting smart by electing Donald Trump in the first place.

Meanwhile President Trump showed his smarts by nominating a principled conservative to the Supreme Court. Neil Gorsuch is an originalist judge in the mold of Antonin Scalia – exactly what President Trump promised the American people as he campaigned for the White House.

And as if on cue, the liberals cranked up the fake news – and this time made a particularly pathetic effort.

Have a great weekend!

Daily Update

Despite the left’s continued hysteria regarding President Trump’s temporary banning of people from 7 countries, Rasmussen is reporting that most likely voters still favor the refugee freeze.   Obviously, those who remain hysterical are not students of history and have no recollection of Winston Churchill’s “iron curtain” speech, that was received much the same as Trump’s ban originally, yet became a turning point in the 20th Century.
