Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses Lee Zeldin’s NYC headquarters, JCOPE’s book deal, and Columbus Day.

Zeldin Opens NYC Headquarters

I had the pleasure of introducing Congressman, and future Governor, Lee Zeldin at the grand opening of his New York City campaign headquarters.

Lee continues to crisscross the state while raising money at an impressive clip. His campaign has worked tirelessly since day 1 and shows no signs of slowing down. Lee Zeldin is the right guy at the right time to restore New York and clean up the mess left behind by disgraced former Governor Cuomo and Governor Hochul who covered up his wrong doings for personal gain.

While the Democrats continue fighting amongst themselves, appearing to be heading towards a very divisive primary that could include NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, AG Tish James and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. It is imperative we get involved often and early to elect Lee Zeldin as our next Governor.

To get involved stop on by Lee’s NYC HQ located at 158 West 29th Street, NY, NY.

JCOPE Approves Inquiry into Cuomo Book Deal

For nearly a year the Conservative Party has called for an investigation into the various unseemly aspects of the Cuomo COVID book deal. For months, the corrupt Governor and his Senior Staff were able to squash any investigation Republican’s sought. Now, with Cuomo’s team of lap dogs gone, the questionable book deal which earned Cuomo millions will now go under formal investigation.

Jose Nieves, new chairman of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, announced after a closed-door session on Tuesday that outside counsel would be retained to investigate “the legal and procedural operations of the commission.”

The former governor was paid $5 million for the book, titled “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic,” after the commission’s top staff approved Cuomo’s request to receive the outside income. It is believed Governor Cuomo abused tax payer dollars by using state employees to conduct research, write and edit the book.

Happy Columbus Day

Columbus Day is not just celebrated to honor one man, instead it is a day to celebrate a brave and daring voyage across unchartered waters that launched hundreds of years’ worth of immigration, innovation, and exceptionalism.

Christopher Columbus represents the idea that you can indeed accomplish more than you think. You can have a dream and through perseverance, hard work, and sacrifice achieve those dreams.

We have lost sight of what it means to take chances, to be brave, and work hard. What we have instead found is a generation hell bent on re-writing history, failing to include context and expecting generations and generations of a changing world to think and act exactly as those with the loudest voice do at this very moment.

By today’s standards, it is easy to condemn anyone. Cancel culture is toxic, it is fundamentally about shaming, and it is about trying to ruin someone or something that may have momentarily made a mistake.

The phenomenon of cancel culture does not but create an environment of hostility and division. Cancel culture is believed to create a sense of accountability for those who say or do controversial things. Instead, it creates an environment where harassment and bullying are not only accepted—it is embraced.

Cancel culture is not activism. It is not brave. As a society, we should work towards more understanding each other better. Understanding where we came from, the times different people lived through, where we are, and where we want to go. Christopher Columbus did just that. He dared to do the unthinkable and paved the way for us to do the same.

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses Hochul open to decriminalizing sex work, Tenney introduces Bill to stop government mandates and our upcoming Fall Reception on Thursday, October 28.

Hochul Open to Decriminalizing Sex Work

“It is absolutely something I’ve thought about and I’m considering,” those are the words of Governor Kathy Hochul when discussing legalizing sex work in New York State. “I’m discussing it with many advocates and people who have strong opinions on this.”

Decriminalizing sex work will create havoc in urban communities and cause more stress that our communities simply can not afford. In a climate in which criminals are walking free due to cash bail reform, this new progressive agenda item can only further erode our society.

In the New York State Senate two bills have been introduced, one that would completely decriminalize sex work and the other would still make it illegal to pay for sex from.

Decriminalizing promotes sex trafficking and is a gift to the men who are running them for a profit. Listen to the comments from Erie Chairman Ralph Lorigo here.

Tenney Introduces Bill to Stop Government Mandates

Congressmembers Claudia Tenney sand Jim Banks, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, introduced the Health Freedom For All Act on Wednesday to prevent the Biden Administration from enacting vaccine mandates on the American people. The bill would clarify that under existing law the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not have the authority to implement rules requiring Americans to undergo COVID-19 vaccinations or testing.

President Biden announced that he would impose a mandatory vaccine requirement on US businesses employing more than 100 workers or require weekly testing for those who remain unvaccinated. This decision is in contrast of previous assurances made by President Biden that he would not impose such mandates on American’s, instead prioritize voluntary vaccination efforts.

New York began firing individuals working in the medical field or education system if they are  not in compliance with the state’s mandatory vaccination requirement on Tuesday which immediately led to urgent cares in Albany being closed due to lack of healthcare workers available.

Nurses were yesterday’s hero’s and today’s villains. They deserve better and our citizens deserve their individual liberties.

Annual Reception

Our annual reception returns October 28th to Westchester County. This year’s honoree is Ron Robinson, former President of Young America’s Foundation. For years the foundation has been committed to ensuring young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.

As a principal outreach organization of the conservative movement, the Foundation introduces thousands of young Americans to these principles.

Young America’s Foundation stepped forward to save President Reagan’s Western White House, Rancho del Cielo, in the spring of 1998 to preserve it as a living monument to Ronald Reagan to pass on his ideas to future generations. President Reagan committed himself to reaching young people with his ideals—a goal that is also central to the Foundation’s mission.

Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin will be a special guest and we expect to announce more guest shortly.

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses the democrats call for Rikers closure, the crisis at the southern border and mandated vaccines for health care workers.

Democrats call for Rikers closure

Four members of the New York Congressional delegation demanded the immediate release of inmates and the permanent closure of New York City’s Rikers Island jail in a move that even Bill de Blasio found asinine.

Democratic Socialists Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jerry Nadler, Jamaal Bowman and Nydia Velázquez called conditions at the jail “deplorable and nothing short of a humanitarian crisis,” in a letter penned to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday.

Amid a rise in crime, almost across the board since 2020, New York City democrats believe the best course of action is to release criminals back into the streets. This new demand is amongst the most incomprehensible thing to ever come out of the mouth of these four members of Congress, and that is saying something.

Democrats will not rest until they have turned New York into a failed state. Voters should take notice of who wishes harm upon them and their loved ones.

Southern Border Worsens

The Biden Administration’s failure to control the influx of illegal immigrants, not only from South American countries, but even Haiti constitutes a real crisis not only for America but also for the men, women, and children attempting to illegally gain entry.

President Biden inherited a secure border with a plan from President Trump and in 8 short months has turned it into one of the biggest humanitarian crises our country has seen in decades.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki insists the borders aren’t open, and it’s a shame she and the White House continue to outright lie to fellow Americans.

Adding insult to injury, these migrants are only being tested for COVID-19 if they show symptoms; certainly, a leading cause of expanding cases throughout the United States.

The Biden Administration has no plan, except to under report or flat out lie regarding the dire situation at our Southern Border which is turning into more of an evasion as the days go by.

Mandate for Healthcare Workers Receives Pushback

Hospitals and nursing homes in New York are facing the possibility that a statewide COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health workers could lead to staff shortages when it takes effect Monday.

On Wednesday, Governor Hochul was met by protestors who pushed back on the vaccine mandate for health care workers who were yesterday’s heroes, but are today’s villains.

Not every health care worker interacts with patients every day, or in many cases ever. This mandate is another form of control forced upon us by a tyrannical government who won’t rest until they control every aspect of our lives.

Every day I am thankful for our health care workers, as we all should be. While I am fully vaccinated and a supporter of the vaccination, I support individual freedoms and rights above mandates.

Non-Citizen-Voting, Defenseless Landlord Bills Show How Out of Touch New York City Government Has Become: Conservative Party

Bronx, NY-Sept. 18…The New York State Conservative Party called the New York City Council “hopelessly out of touch” today for two reckless pieces of legislation it is now considering: non-citizen voting and a measure that would prevent landlords, large and small, from conducting criminal background checks on prospective tenants.

The call was made during a news conference Saturday outside the Bronx Conservative Party Headquarters, at which a state executive committee meeting was later held. Speakers at the news conference included State Conservative Party Chairman, Gerard Kassar; Bronx Conservative Party Chairman, Patrick McManus; Conservative Party Bronx Borough President Candidate,  Sammy Ravelo; Bronx Conservative Party Candidate For the 11th Council District, Kevin Pazmino, and Bronx Conservative Party Candidate For the 15th Council District, Ariel Rivera.

“Ask any New Yorker about either of these bills and watch their reaction,” said State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar. “New Yorkers implicitly know that voting is a right reserved for citizens and that common sense demands that landlords, especially those renting out second units in two-family houses, have a right to know if a prospective tenant has a criminal history.”

Chairman Kassar and other leaders said that the City Council “has traded common sense for woke ideologies that are eroding the civil fabric of New York.”

“New York City government is completely ungrounded right now, and we urge voters to carefully consider our candidates for city offices this year. If you like reason, law-and-order, and common sense, you’ll love them, because that’s what they stand for.”

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap-up discusses the reapportionment maps, the NYC Council Bill that puts tenants at risk and General Milley.

Reapportionment Maps Released

Initial maps were released Wednesday afternoon for congress and the state legislature by the supposed independent commission and as we quickly learned, nothing was independent about the process. The end result was two maps, a democratic version and a GOP version.  The GOP version reflected provisions of the New York State constitution and jurisprudence over the past decade.  The democratic version had the fingerprints of New York and National Democrats all over it.

National and State Democrats are aware their chances of retaining the majority in DC at the ballot box are unlikely, so they implemented a New York power grab in an attempt to cling on to power in Washington, DC.

The GOP had been working with the democrats to produce fair lines, but those communications broke down late last week after outside democratic forces intervened to make the entire process political. The bottom line is that the democratic maps were egregiously drawn in such a manner that they violate the spirit of the State Constitution’s reapportionment provision, if not the law outright.

The Conservative Party will be working with its allies in the GOP to produce fair, more representative legislative lines.

NYC Council Bill Puts Tenants at Risk

The Conservative Party organizations representing the five counties of New York City stand strongly against City Council Intro. 2047 which would prohibit landlords from conducting criminal background checks on residential tenants, including those in co-operatives and condominiums.

Intro. 2047 is a typical progressive agenda item that gives zero thought to the resulting consequences to landlords and tenants alike.

“With crime already on the rise, this proposal only further endangers the safety and security of our communities,” said Kings County Chairwoman Frances T. Vella-Marrone.

Tenants should expect landlords to have done their due diligence in providing a safe environment. And property owners have the right to all background information both financially and criminally when making decisions concerning potential tenants.

The City Council continues to invent new ways to prioritize everyone except the law abiding residents of New York City. This is another recipe for disaster.  Read the press release here.

General Milley Accused of Secret Calls with China

In a bombshell revelation General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, is accused of holding two secret phone calls with top Chinese military officials while serving under Commander-In-Chief Donald Trump.

According to the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, General Milley went as far as to promise to tip off Beijing if the United States was planning an attack. If these accusations are true, Milley must resign or be fired immediately with treason charges to follow.

Woodward and Costa didn’t stop there as they go on to say General Milley ordered senior military officials not to take any orders from President Trump unless he approved them first.

These are accusations not becoming of a top military official and the Biden administration should take the accusations serious as they could have major national security implications.

For weeks since the beginning of the Afghanistan debacle, I have been calling for General Milley, SECDEF Austin and Secretary of State Blinken to resign over the lies they have delivered to the people, the American citizens they left behind, and overseeing the biggest foreign policy failure this nation has seen in more than a decade.

Remembering 9/11

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that forever changed our world.

It was like any other normal September day in New York City. Nice weather and clear skies as residents from the Tri-State poured into lower Manhattan for work. Just as I assume was happening with residents from the D.C. metro area on their way to the Pentagon to start their workday. What would happen next was unimaginable, unthinkable, and unforgiveable.

I remember September 10, 2001 like it was yesterday. I had finished lunch with a friend in City Hall Park, I recall the Twin Towers shining in the cloudless sky, a site I had seen thousands of times. A mere 20 hours later I found myself, along with many others, on Veterans Memorial Pier in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn looking directly onto the burning towers.

I remember hearing the blaring sound of FDNY, NYPD, and EMT sirens. I remember being both saddened and angered by what was transpiring in the city I have called home my entire life.

2,977 innocent fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends and co-workers were taken from us that day. It was the darkest day our nation had ever seen, a day I knew would change America forever.

Though we suffered tremendous losses that day, New Yorker’s proved they were what we always knew they were—resilient, caring and capable of more than we could ever imagine. The stories of heroism that day never ceases to amaze me, and I was never prouder to be a New Yorker than I was in the days following the attacks.

To all 9/11 was 20 years ago, but to many 9/11 was yesterday, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and every day after.

We vowed to “Never Forget,” but it saddens me to say we have. We now villainize the very men and women of the NYPD who selflessly ran into the burning towers to save lives, we carelessly stroll by the very firehouses that once housed the men and women who remained in WTC 1, knowing WTC 2 had collapsed, but refused to evacuate because they still had a mission inside.

Not a day has gone by that I haven’t, if even only for a second, thought about September 11. Not a day will go by where I won’t think about September 11.

I, like all of you reading this, will never forget what I felt in my heart that fateful day. I will never forget the sacrifice our heroes made, I will never forget that when staring in the face of danger, no one responds like a New Yorker.

I do not take the phrase “Never Forget” lightly, I do not take all those we lost for granted, and I hold on dearly to what I felt in the days following—proud to be a New Yorker, proud to be an American.

Chairman Kassar discusses the new Lt. Governor, the federal spending plan and the disaster in Afghanistan.

New Lt. Governor Wants to Defund the Police

Governor Hochul has selected her Lt. Governor, and it’s much of the same. Not surprising from the woman who turned a blind eye towards Andrew Cuomo’s misdeeds for years.

“I support the movement to defund the police” current State Senator and incoming Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin said in January of this year. 2021 has seen a 7.1% increase in shooting incidents while murders are on pace to surpass the 2020 total.

Senator Benjamin has been on the wrong side of every issue plaguing our city from criminal bail reform, to defunding the police. He has taken every far left political position possible and his selection as Lt. Governor is indicative of the type of Governing we can expect from Governor Hochul.

Speaking of Governor Hochul, her admission that 12,000 more New Yorkers have perished from Covid-19 than previously reported — bringing the current grim tally to more than 55,000 — begs the question: Why is she only telling us now?

Governor Hochul served as New York’s Lt. Governor from 2015 until yesterday, and, as the state’s second in command, she clearly had to know — or should have known — the true Covid death toll in the state. So why did she stay silent as Governor Cuomo hid these numbers? Did her pledge to be transparent begin only yesterday?

Read my full statement on Senator Benjamin here.

GOP Votes no on 3.5 Trillion Spending Plan

Our eight Conservative Party endorsed members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted no on Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi’s latest tax payer funded wish list.

The New York eight joined 204 of their GOP colleagues, falling just short of killing the bill as no Democrats joined with Republicans. More evidence to support how crucial the 2022 election cycle is for Republicans.

The bill includes $100 billion for amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, doubles the size of the IRS, taking more of your money to pay for their operations, and increases the national debt to $45 trillion by the year 2031.

Party leaders say they hope to finish work on a spending bill by Oct. 1, leaving just weeks to address serious concerns among moderates over the cost of Biden’s spending plans.

Disaster in Afghanistan

On behalf of the Conservative Party, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the 13 service members lost in yesterday’s suicide bombing attacks. We remain eternally grateful for our men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

The truth of the matter is this, this entire calamity in Afghanistan was completely avoidable. Joe Biden’s plan and execution was inept, hastily done, and ignored the advice of many military leaders and experts.

Under Biden, America feels less and less like a superpower every day. Under Biden we are openly mocked and laughed at on the world stage, this after only 7 months of his administration.

We have gone from eradicating ISIS and putting fear in terrorists everywhere, to taking orders from the Taliban on what they will and will not allow Americans to do.

In the face of immense pressure, our President hides within the confines of the White House while the American people receive more updates from foreign government than their own Commander-In-Chief.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio said it best, “This morning the President of the United States should inform the Taliban that we will be in Afghanistan until everyone we & our allies plan to evacuate is accounted for & out of the country. If they cooperate it should be swift & orderly.

If they get in the way they will be killed.”

Chairman Kassar discusses: the Biden Afghanistan Debacle, Inflation and the Assembly About Face

Biden Administration Withdrawal Failure

The withdrawal became a retreat, the retreat became a rout, the rout became a defeat. The Biden Administration either had no plan, or a horribly bad plan, to withdraw our troops, allies and citizens from Afghanistan.

Joe Biden has now, more than ever, proven he is a first-class foreign relations disaster as President. As the Taliban overthrew a government and gained control of Afghanistan, Joe Biden was no where to be found. He spent the first 72 hours in hiding as mid-level press flacks addressed the nation on the biggest international news story in a decade.

When Biden did speak, he said he had “no regrets” on any of the decisions he made. Chilling words from a President of the United States which still has thousands of its citizens trapped in Afghanistan and a State Department informing them they cannot ensure safe passage to Karzai International airport.

Senior military and State Department officials have claimed they advised President Biden that imminent danger for American citizens and the Afghanistan people was ahead, but he ignored the intel. He ignored his Joint Chiefs, his Generals and his top Middle East experts.

It should not be forgotten that while American lives are at stake, Joe Biden blamed Donald Trump who is now a private citizen living in Florida.

Joe Biden owns this disaster. No one else.

Inflation

A little inflation is healthy. It greases the economic engine and leads to growth. Enter Joe Biden and the inflation we have been experiencing at an unhealthy level and getting worse by the day.

According to AAA the national gas price sits at an average of $3.17. Here in New York, the average gallon of gas is $3.22 and in California it sits at a shocking $4.40.

The cost of living doesn’t end there. We have seen it at the supermarket and soon we will see it at our banks in the form of mortgages and other types of loans.

As inflation far exceeds wage gains, economists warn we are sitting on an inflation time bomb.

U.S. wages grew at a 4% year-over-year pace in July, but trailed the 5.4% annual increase in inflation suggesting that while nominal wages are rising, real wages are falling. This does nothing but leave working families in the dust.

“Call it the ‘Biden pay cut,’” said Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of the Job Creators Network, a conservative U.S. advocacy group. “Rapid inflation and declining real wages are the direct result of the Biden administration’s historic spending that is overheating the economy and creating disincentives to work.”

Assembly Does About Face

As a result of an outcry from the GOP members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Assembly Democrats will not get away with sweeping their investigation of Andrew Cuomo under the rug.

It is believed that Governor Cuomo wanted protection from impeachment if he agreed to resign.  The Democrats were happy to oblige but quitting his day job as Governor doesn’t erase his criminal and civil liabilities.

The investigation will now be completed, and a report issued. This will go a long way to ensuring that Andrew Cuomo is held accountable for his actions. No one is above the law.

Resigning simply took him off the taxpayer payroll. Justice will only come about through a full airing of the many wrongs he and his senior staff made over the years.

It is shameful that the Democratic Assembly attempted to do him one last favor.

Statement from Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar on The Fall of Afghanistan

 August 16, 2021

“Words can’t capture the images coming out of Kabul. President Joe Biden’s planned withdrawal turned into a panicked rout, and now, once again, as in Vietnam, we are seeing desperate U.S. allies hanging from departing airplanes. These are scenes that will live in infamy.

“The abject planning failure of the Biden Administration will be studied and discussed for decades to come, but for now we must focus on getting U.S. allies out of Afghanistan safely and in the most orderly fashion possible.

“The American public needs to hear from their President now about how he plans to accomplish this.”

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses Cuomo’s upcoming resignation, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul and Cayuga County’s salute to Greg Rigby.

Governor Cuomo Resigns in Disgrace

On Tuesday Andrew Cuomo gave one of the most disingenuous resignation speeches in human memory, but at least he resigned.

We trust that his stepping down will do nothing to slow the myriad investigations into his misbehaviors, including covering up nursing home death data; profiting $5.1 million from his obfuscation of those deaths; using state-paid employees to write his tome, and allegations of both physical and verbal sexual abuse of at least 11 women.

Mr. Cuomo’s behavior has shown the need for far greater transparency in New York State government, and so many questions for him still need to be answered.

We continue to call on the Assembly to proceed with impeachment proceedings, along with the Albany County Sheriff Department’s investigation into the criminal complaints levied against Governor Cuomo. He must be held accountable for his actions.

Incoming Governor Kathy Hochul

The Conservative Party wishes incoming Governor Kathleen Hochul well in her transition to New York’s top executive office. New York has faced much adversity over the last 18 months, and it is time for leaders to put the needs of the entire state over themselves.

However, we will continue holding her to account for allowing Mr. Cuomo’s gross, well-known behavior to go on for the past seven years she served as his Lt. Governor. Often times, the Lt. Governor verbalized how proud she was to work alongside Governor Cuomo. With the information we now have, it is unlikely that she and her staff could have been so blind to the many misdeeds occurring in the Cuomo administration.

We cannot afford another clubhouse politician as New York’s Chief Executive. We need and deserve transparency from a Governor the public can respect and puts constituents first.

Cayuga County Conservative Party

The Cayuga County Conservative Party held their annual clambake honoring long time party leader Greg Rigby. The event was a great success, and I was beyond pleased to see the Cayuga organization functioning so well.

I want to congratulate Chairman David Pappert and his committee on a great afternoon. The more than 200 people in attendance was a clear indicator of the good work he and his committee are doing.

Greg Rigby and his wife have re-located to South Carolina and we wish them nothing but the best. Greg has been a dear friend and leader within the Conservative Party holding positions as both Cayuga County Chairman and State Party Vice Chairman. He will be greatly missed here in New York State.

STATEMENT FROM NEW YORK STATE CONSERVATIVE PARTY CHAIRMAN GERARD KASSAR

“Lt. Governor Hochul Should Be Included in All Key State Matters to Ensure Continuity of Government”

Brooklyn, NY – “With Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tenure in Albany likely to come to an abrupt end, it’s critically important that Lt. Gov. Kathleen Hochul be fully briefed to take the mantle of state government at a moment’s notice. Based on Gov. Cuomo’s empty schedules, it appears as though these crucially important briefings aren’t occurring. This is a complex state, and we see that as a mistake, as well as a disservice to a Lt. Governor who deserves better.

“Lt. Governor Hochul must also be prepared to explain how Gov. Cuomo’s toxic work environment, especially toward women, was allowed to fester during the seven-plus years she served as Mr. Cuomo’s partner in government. It’s impossible to believe that Ms. Hochul was unaware of this dynamic in the Executive Office. This is a natural line of inquiry, and we expect members of the news media to pursue it.”
