Weekly Wrap Up 5/9/26

Hochul’s Incompetence

In a career that spanned many years in Albany, I not once witnessed a Governor declare a budget agreement, only to have the two legislative leaders declare that there is no agreement. I suspect Governor Kathy Hochul, not known for her willingness to work with others, is as unpopular with the Democratic legislative leaders as she is with the general public.

The major commentary on her unilateral budget announcement was that it lacked details. In fact, upon questioning, it was apparent the Governor, who punted repeatedly on specifics, was more interested in the attention than the budget itself.

Considering it raises taxes and spending without addressing affordability in a meaningful manner, I can understand the Democratic leaders wanting a unified front before this nine-week-late document, purporting to be a balanced budget, was announced.

Governor Hochul, seeking her second full term as Governor, does not have the support of the majority of the state’s voters for re-election, according to numerous polls. Her management of New York State’s budgets is certainly not going to help her poor standing.

Summer Dinner Honoring Lee Zeldin

We are 12 days away from the New York State Conservative Party’s 2026 Summer Dinner on Thursday evening, May 21, at The Union League Club in New York City!

This is always one of the most important and energizing events of the year, bringing together leaders and supporters from across the state. This year is especially meaningful as we honor our very own Lee Zeldin as the recipient of the 4th Annual Michael R. Long Award.

We’ll also be celebrating and supporting our statewide ticket, including Bruce Blakeman, Todd Hood, Saritha Komatireddy, and Joseph Hernandez. These are the leaders who are stepping up to fight for our values, restore common sense, and deliver results for New Yorkers.

The evening will include a VIP reception at 5:30 pm, general reception at 6:00 pm, and dinner from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Business attire is required, and the event will be held at The Union League Club, located at 38 East 37th Street in Manhattan.

Events like this are critical to building momentum and ensuring we have the resources to win.

Happy Mother’s Day

From myself and the NYS Conservative Party, I want to wish all of the incredible mothers out there a very Happy Mother’s Day. Sunday is the day to recognize and celebrate everything that mothers do for their families, their children, and their communities. We all know that mothers are the backbone of every household!

To the mothers whose loved ones are overseas serving and fighting for our country, we are especially thinking of you this Mother’s Day. The sacrifices your families make do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for your strength.
