“The Supreme Court has affirmed what every New Yorker who believes in fair elections already knew: you don’t rewrite the rules mid-game to manufacture outcomes. Governor Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats attempted to weaponize a hand-picked judge—one who previously served as Hochul’s own special counsel—to gerrymander Congresswoman Malliotakis out of her seat under the guise of ‘voting rights.’ The Court saw through this transparent scheme to subvert democracy in New York.
When you can’t win at the ballot box, apparently you try the back room. Today, that failed. The voters of Staten Island and Brooklyn will choose their representative—not Kathy Hochul’s redistricting commission.”
