Statement on Hochul’s Decision to Legalize Assisted Suicide

Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar:

“Today, I speak on behalf of the Conservative Party of New York State with a deep sense of both sorrow and resolve. Governor Hochul’s decision to sign legislation legalizing assisted suicide is a grave and dangerous mistake. It sets us on a perilous path where the value of human life is diminished by state sanction.

Life, in our belief, is an inviolable gift that must be fiercely protected. By endorsing legislation that opens the door to assisted suicide, the Governor is leading New York down a slippery slope that threatens our most vulnerable citizens—those who may be pressured or left feeling that their lives are burdensome.

Our party has always stood for the sanctity of life and the dignity inherent in every human being. We believe that a compassionate society provides care and comfort, not an easy exit. This is a matter of moral principle and of the enduring value we place on every life, regardless of age, illness, or circumstance.

In the strongest possible terms, we oppose this legislation. We urge New Yorkers to recognize the gravity of this issue and to join us in defending the fundamental right to life. Let us continue to champion policies that affirm the preciousness of life and offer true dignity and support to those in need.”
