As Memorial Day approaches, I wanted to wish you all a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is a special day in my heart, and most people share that same feeling. People celebrate the weekend in lots of different ways, but we all understand the reason we are able to do it. We do so for those who gave their life serving our Nation, and we celebrate their legacies.
At its core, Memorial Day is a sacred time of remembrance. It is the day our Nation pauses to honor those who laid down their lives in defense of our freedom.
It is not enough to remember them with words alone. We must live lives worthy of their sacrifice. That means fighting for the very principles they gave their lives to defend; freedom of speech, religious liberty, national sovereignty, and the rule of law. At the Conservative Party, we will never waiver in our commitment to those ideals.
Each name etched into a headstone at Arlington, Calverton, Cypress Hills (where I will be speaking Sunday), Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, NYS Veterans Cemetery (Finger lakes), or any of the sacred grounds across our State and Country represents a life given so that ours could be lived in peace. They were sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, and above all, patriots. Their courage and selflessness define why our Nation is so great.
President Donald J. Trump put it best when he said: “We can never replace them. We can never repay them. But we can always remember. And today, that is what we are doing — we remember.”- 2017 speech at Arlington National Cemetery
This weekend, I encourage you to attend a local ceremony, place a flag at a veteran’s grave, or simply pause for a moment of silence. Share a story with your children about the cost of our freedoms. Let your neighbors see your American flag fly high. Personally, I will be attending the Kings Conservative Party’s flag presentation on Memorial Day in Brooklyn, which is always a beautiful remembrance. On behalf of the New York State Conservative Party, I wish you a safe, reflective, and truly patriotic Memorial Day weekend. May we never forget the price of freedom, and may God forever bless the United States of America.
