Extremism on Display in Massachusetts and New Jersey
Two new laws in deep-blue states this week show just how far the radical abortion agenda continues to go. In Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey signed legislation eliminating the state’s previous 24-week restriction and allowing abortions later in pregnancy based on a physician’s professional judgment. You heard that right, this effectively means full term abortion is available and legal.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed legislation creating new criminal penalties surrounding activity outside reproductive and gender-affirming health care facilities. The law allows authorities to disperse certain gatherings and makes conduct such as causing emotional harm or interfering with access subject to criminal penalties. Prayer? Protests? ILLEGAL outside abortion clinics. Coming to New York soon…
These laws should concern every American who believes in protecting both the unborn and our constitutional freedoms. No one should face criminal prosecution simply for peacefully expressing their beliefs, and the idea that government should remove all meaningful limits on abortion throughout pregnancy should alarm people across the political spectrum. Standing Up for Constitutional Rights
At our recent Executive Committee meeting, we were pleased to have Marc Wheat, General Counsel for Advancing American Freedom, join us by Zoom to speak with our members about the important legal work being done to defend constitutional rights across the country.
Marc gave our members an overview of the amicus briefs that our Party has joined and the broader legal strategy behind these efforts. From defending constitutional protections to challenging unlawful actions by Democrats and government officials, our participation in these cases allows the Conservative Party to have a voice in important legal battles well beyond New York.
Advancing American Freedom has become a major force in this effort, filing amicus briefs in cases involving First Amendment freedoms, religious liberty, government overreach and other constitutional issues. Marc has personally filed more than 100 amicus briefs, including dozens before the U.S. Supreme Court.
We appreciate Marc taking the time to speak with our members and explain the importance of this work. The Conservative Party will continue to stand up for the Constitution and support legal challenges when the government attempts to exceed its authority.
Our Congressional candidate Jackie Auringer is picking up momentum across NY-18, and she is putting in the work every single day. Jackie has been traveling throughout the district, meeting voters, attending events and making her case for a new voice in Congress. Recently she stopped by our summer BBQ to speak to our members.
Four years ago, this race came within just 1.3%, or roughly 1,300 votes, of flipping. That should tell conservatives throughout the district that this seat is absolutely winnable.
Jackie is a strong candidate with a real opportunity to make history, but she cannot do it alone. She needs the support of conservatives across the district and throughout New York.
