Statement on State Budget from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar

“Governor Hochul’s $254 billion budget is a fiscal monstrosity—an inflationary, tax-hiking, business-repelling disaster that will only accelerate the exodus of New Yorkers. In 2024 alone, 59% of those who moved did so to leave the state, making New York the third most abandoned state in the nation.  Even affluent millennials are fleeing, with a net loss of 4,251 high-income households seeking refuge in red states like Florida and Texas.

“This budget is a masterclass in fiscal irresponsibility: a $15 billion spending increase, funded by higher taxes on businesses and gimmicky handouts.  It’s as if Albany is trying to win a gold medal in economic self-sabotage.

“However, credit where it’s due: Governor Hochul’s decision to ban cellphones in schools is a rare instance of common sense prevailing. It’s a policy that aligns with the Conservative Party’s values—prioritizing education and discipline over distractions.

“But one sensible policy doesn’t offset the avalanche of fiscal recklessness. New York doesn’t need more spending; it needs a return to responsible governance that encourages growth, not flight.”
