The good, the bad, and the ugly of the 4th of July long weekend.

We hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July, certainly if you heard President Donald Trump at Mount Rushmore you were proud to be an American.  In case you missed it, you can watch it here.  Of course, if you only read the main stream media’s reporting on the speech, you would wonder if they were listening to the same speech.  The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) had this to say, “Contrary to the media reporting, the America Mr. Trump described is one of genuine racial equality and diversity. He highlighted the central ideal of the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal.” As he rightly put it, “these immortal words set in motion the unstoppable march of freedom” that included the abolition of slavery more than a half century later.  Rojer Kimball had this to say in American Greatness:  A Magnificent Speech

Unfortunately, far too many people have decided to ignore the history of America; the way we embrace differences and do our best to undo the faults of our beginnings.  Today, the calls to “cancel” ring loud and frenzied, without thought, without understanding the importance of knowing how far we have come.  In Rochester, NY, a local hero, Fredrick Douglass who gave one of the most important anti-slavery speeches prior to the civil war, had one of the statues the city built to honor his memory, destroyed.  Read more about what happened here.  We cannot let the forces determined to destroy the greatest nation ever created, the one nation that people still plea to become a citizen of, win by dividing America.

“Our valiant police officers have one of the most perilous, stressful duties around, and from what I have seen in my nearly dozen years here, they do it with care, compassion and competence,” said Timothy Cardinal Dolan over the weekend.  We couldn’t agree more.  Thank you, Cardinal Dolan, for speaking out on behalf of our police officers.

For those who thought that the US Supreme Court wouldn’t have a unanimous decision for a long time; today’s was.

It’s the GOP’s job now to be ready to step up when voters realize it’s time to change.  And the Conservative Party of NYS will be right there with them to fight the good fight.

Here are some things you might have missed over the long weekend:

Seriously, Governor?  This is what you must discuss at your briefings?  How can we possibly survive without your help?

Wow. Governor Cuomo can’t even post Happy 4th of July, Happy Independence Day America. Rather he says on America’s 244 Birthday: Happy Saturday us. This from the man who said, America was never that great. So disheartening, but not surprising.
