Chairman Kassar’s Weekly Wrap Up 2/21/26

11TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT UPDATE

As expected, the Manhattan-based State Appellate Court has lifted the stay that had been preventing the Independent Redistricting Commission from redrawing New York’s 26 congressional districts, as ordered by Hochul henchman Judge Jeffrey Pearlman.

The original, highly political decision by Acting New York County State Supreme Court Judge Jeffrey Pearlman ignored the fact that the existing lines were signed off on in 2024 by the Governor and other Democrats. Pearlman, a former counsel and Chief of Staff to Governor Kathy Hochul, has since come under heavy criticism.

In anticipation of a partisan decision in the New York judicial system, the legal team representing Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis filed for a stay with the Supreme Court of the United States several weeks ago.

Her team’s arguments are consistent with a number of recent decisions by the Court and are directly aligned with precedent. There is a strong belief that the Court will agree to hear the case, making a stay the logical and immediate outcome.

A decision on the stay is expected in the near future.

GEORGE WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY

Presidents’ Day was celebrated this past Monday, a time to honor all those who have served as President of the United States. And with George Washington’s birthday tomorrow, it feels especially fitting to reflect on America’s legacy.

February gave us remarkable leaders like Abraham Lincoln, born February 12, Ronald Reagan, born February 6, and of course George Washington, February 22nd.

George Washington’s leadership at the founding of our nation set a standard of character, restraint, and devotion to the country that still defines the office today.

As America celebrates 250 years since our founding, this moment carries even greater meaning. Two and a half centuries ago, an extraordinary idea took root on this soil, that our rights come from our Creator, and that the government answers to the people.

Through war, hardship, division, and triumph, that idea has endured.

The 250th anniversary of the United States is not simply a celebration of the past. It is a reminder of our responsibility. We are the stewards of a republic built on sacrifice and sustained by faith and freedom. The question for our generation is whether we will preserve it with the same resolve shown by those who came before us.

God Bless America.
