Chairman Kassar’s Weekly Wrap Up 12/5/25

SUPPORT FOR LEE ZELDIN’S ENERGY STANCE

Myself and the Conservative Party are proud of EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, for standing up against rushed electric-vehicle mandates and protecting the ability of New Yorkers to keep practical, affordable gas-powered cars. Much of this debate centers on CAFE standards, federal fuel-efficiency rules created in 1975. President Trump previously rolled back the aggressive Obama-era standards, while President Biden tightened them again, pushing a faster EV transition than consumers or the market were ready for. Even the CEO of Ford has warned that overly aggressive EV mandates are putting enormous strain on automakers. Easing these requirements is essential to stabilizing the auto industry and could help bring life back to a sector struggling under unrealistic timelines.

Governor Hochul’s alignment with these aggressive Biden electrification policies created widespread concern in New York. Families feared soaring costs, strain on the state’s already fragile grid, potentially deadly battery fires, and the real risk that battery failures in cold weather could leave children stranded. Especially in upstate communities she claims to champion.

Zeldin has long argued, during his time as a Congressman and during his gubernatorial run, that these rushed mandates raise costs, limit consumer choice, and create avoidable dangers. With the White House now slowing and reversing parts of the EV-mandate agenda, it’s clear those concerns were justified.

Thanks to President Trump’s rollback of unrealistic CAFE standards and Lee Zeldin’s continued leadership, New Yorkers can keep affordable gas-powered cars on the road and we can return to normalcy.

OPPOSE UNAFFORDABLE CITY PAY RAISES

In the final days of 2025 and the start of 2026, the Democrat-controlled NYC Council is moving to approve significant salary increases for thousands of non-union employees, senior staff, and even Council members themselves. Just to paint the picture: Councilmembers salaries would be increased to $172,500. It gets worse, our incoming socialist Mayor would see an increase as well, earning over $300,000 just in yearly salary. Not to mention the perks and benefits.

These raises would place many among the highest-paid municipal employees in the country. At a time when affordability dominated every major election, this self-serving move by both outgoing and incoming city leaders should not go unnoticed. Incoming Speaker Julie Menin, chosen in part with GOP minority support, should demonstrate moderation and fiscal responsibility by opposing these unnecessary taxpayer-funded pay hikes.
