Tax Freedom Day
When I was the Brooklyn Party Chairman, we annually celebrated Tax Freedom Day by cutting a cake. It was a sort of backhanded celebration of a not so great day.
New York State’s Tax Freedom Day is May 3rd, the latest in the nation.
Tax Freedom Day marks the point in the calendar when you’ve earned enough money to cover your total tax burden for the year and begin working for yourself. Put another way, from January 1st to May 3rd, every dollar you and your family earn effectively goes toward taxes.
Just about every state in the Northeast has a late Tax Freedom Day. Conversely, nearly every state benefiting from New York’s ongoing outmigration enjoys an earlier Tax Freedom Day.
As a side note, Tax Freedom Day for New York City, Long Island, and the lower Mid-Hudson region, if taken separately, falls several days later than May 3rd.
The 2025–2026 state budget, crafted by Governor Hochul and the Democrat-controlled State Legislature, does nothing to reverse this trend. In reality, the spending plan is at least $2 billion above the January released executive budget, which itself was $15 billion over last year’s budget. The numbers round off at $254 billion versus $237 billion.
The Governor may talk about gimmicks such as $400 “middle-class tax givebacks,” but she cannot explain why she is advocating for an inflationary budget that continues the Democratic obsession with bailouts and program expansions. Many of which are questioned by a majority of New Yorkers.
In conclusion, I would suggest that the best way to celebrate Tax Freedom Day is not with a cake on Saturday, but with your vote in November.
Assisted Suicide Bill A136 and S138
Earlier this week, the New York State Assembly passed legislation to legalize assisted suicide. The New York State Conservative Party, alongside its many friends inside and outside of elected office, worked diligently to bring awareness to this legislative injustice that defies moral, ethical, and rational review. We are grateful that the entire Republican and Conservative delegation, as well as 21 Democrats voted NO on this dangerous bill.
Unfortunately, the measure passed due to radical Democrats outnumbering those with common sense. This came despite overwhelming evidence from Canada’s and Europe’s failed programs, which has shown how inhumane and coercive assisted suicide can become; particularly for the vulnerable, elderly, disabled, and those struggling with mental illness or poverty.
We will not stop fighting for our most vulnerable during life’s most difficult moments. The Conservative Party unequivocally values life, and we will always stand on the side of dignity, common sense and moral clarity. You can read our press release on the bill here:
Saluting President Trump’s Historic First 100 Days
We have already hit the 100 day mark of the Trump Administration, and I have nothing but praise for the work the President and his Cabinet have done thus far. All while still facing constant pressure from the biased media, interference from judges, more impeachments, and the bloat of government. I am excited to see his work continue for the American people in the coming years. Some highlights from the first 100 days of the golden age:
- Shut the borders and brought sanity back to America’s front door;
- Ended the immigration crisis that politicians have kicked down the road for decades;
- Created DOGE — the Department of Government Efficiency — slashing waste and cutting bureaucratic bloat;
- Revived American energy by fast-tracking pipelines and drilling permits;
- Restored respect for law enforcement with real support and real resources;
- Terminated discriminatory DEI mandates in federal hiring and contracting, returning merit to the forefront…
