“The Conservative Party has established itself as a preeminent force in New York Politics and an important part of our political history." ~ President Ronald Reagan

WE MAKE AN IMPACT

George Pataki – Governor
The Conservative Party endorsed George Pataki in each of his many victories for local, state legislative and statewide office. In 1994 Pataki was elected Governor when he defeated Mario Cuomo by about 175,000 votes receiving better than 328,000 votes on the Conservative Party line. We were the margin of victory.
Lee Zeldin – Congress/Governor
The New York State Conservative Party consistently endorsed Zeldin in this Long Island district. In close races (especially 2014 and 2020), the Conservative line added thousands of votes. In 2022, Lee Zeldin came within a few points of being elected Governor. His Conservative Party vote of over 300,000 was one of our largest ever for Governor. Zeldin often publicly praised the Conservative Party for our early encouragement and support of his candidacy.
Ronald Reagan - President
The New York State Conservative Party formally endorsed Ronald Reagan in 1980, giving him an additional line on the New York ballot. Reagan received over 173,000 votes on the Conservative line in New York in 1980 — enough to give him the margin of victory in the state over Jimmy Carter. Without the Conservative Party line, Reagan would likely have lost New York.
James L. Buckley - Senate
In 1970, The New York State Conservative Party rejected both major parties’ Senate nominees: Republican: Charles Goodell (a liberal appointee by Rockefeller Democrat: Richard Ottinger (anti-war liberal) - CPNYS ran James L. Buckley, brother of William F. Buckley Jr. and a constitutional conservative, as their only candidate — not a fusion play. Buckley was listed only on the Conservative Party line, a bold move.
State Legislature
The NYS Conservative Party has played a decisive role in holding Albany lawmakers accountable with hardline legislative scorecards and regular statements on issues ensuring conservative principles – like fiscal restraint, public safety, parental rights, sanctity of life and protection of the Freedoms laid out in the Bill of Rights – are always considered. Our efforts helped end the Democratic Super Majority in the State Senate bringing an improved balance to the left leaning body.
United States Congress
In 2022 the National Media declared the NYS Conservative Party the “Majority Makers” because of the number of NYS Congressional races won on the Conservative Party line resulting in the House flipping from Democratic to Republican. In 2024, once again, the Party helped elect a number of Congress members who constituted enough seats to guarantee a small House GOP Majority.

President Donald J. Trump

Donald Trump in each of his elections for President was endorsed by the Conservative Party receiving the 2nd (2024), the 3rd (2020), and 4th (2016) highest votes in Conservative Party history. This is what Trump has to say about the Party: “It’s not easy to be an unapologetic conservative in one of the most liberal states in America, but your loyalty and commitment to the cause of freedom have paid off with a growing and thriving Party.”
