Is your Legislator Committed to NO New Taxes?
We would like you to know that the following letter was sent to every New York State Assemblyman and Senator asking them to commit to you, their constituent, that they will not vote to increase taxes, nor will they vote for any new taxes or fees. Please check the attached file to find out if your Assemblyman or Senator has made the commitment to do so. If they have not, you will be able to click on their e-mail address and ask them to make that commitment to you today.

Dear State Legislator:
New York’s fiscal state is a quagmire and every passing day it becomes precipitously close to bankruptcy. Unfortunately, New York is not alone when it comes to fiscal instability, but you, as an elected New York State Legislator, can make the changes necessary to help your constituents.
Your constituents put their faith in you when they voted to put you in office. Now you must return their vote of confidence by making a commitment to vote no on any new taxes and fees.
The citizens of New York are struggling to pay their rent/mortgage, to put healthy food on their tables and just trying to have their pay checks last until the next one. Even the slightest increase in taxes and fees will be detrimental to the citizens who already pay far more than they can afford to in taxes and fees.
Comptroller DiNapoli has indicated that revenues are coming up short and having an adverse effect on balancing the budget. How many of your constituents have left New York due to the tax burden? We urge you to help stop the exodus by reducing the cost of living in New York. You can make a difference by making a commitment to your constituents to lower the tax burden by cutting spending and to reject all new taxes and fees. Businesses are going to tax-friendly states and the possibilities of new employment opportunities are bleak.
You and only you can change the forecast in New York. You can commit to rejecting any increase in taxes and rejecting any new taxes and fees. You can restore the faith of the voters who trusted you to do what is right for them.
If you make this commitment to your constituents, we will let them know by rating it in our legislative ratings. As you know, we rate budget bills in our annual ratings, this commitment will be an additional category.
Please let me know that your constituents can count on your support. You can email me at cpnys@nybiz.rr.com to let me know that your constituents can count on you the same as you count on them every election day.
Sincerely,
Michael R. Long
State Chairman

Dear Friends,
The problem with this post is that some of the people who responded that they would not raise taxes have raised them. In fact, a few of the respondents have voted in committee to raise new taxes this year! I think that without comparing election year rhetoric to a legislator's record, you are inadvertantly giving some candidates a forum to mislead the public.
