CONSERVATIVES LAUNCH PETITION DRIVE

TO SUSPEND 4% GASOLINE SALES TAX

Ft. Hamilton Station, NY -- Michael R. Long, State Chairman of the Conservative Party, announced today, that the Conservative Party is recommitting its efforts to suspend the 4% sales tax included in price of gasoline.

“Four years ago when gasoline prices were soaring, we supported John Faso’s efforts to suspend the gasoline sales tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Today’s gasoline prices are even more inflated and we are now calling for the suspension of the states 4% tax on gasoline sales,” said Long.

“Since the sales tax is a based on a percentage, the state, in the last 6 months has reaped a steady windfall in gasoline sales tax receipts and the Conservative Party is calling on the Legislature to suspend the sales tax immediately,” Long continued.  “People and businesses are being effected by the ever increasing gas prices and before the economy is severely harmed, New York State should take the initiative and suspend the 4% gasoline sales tax and give some relief to those who need it most instead of thinking of ways it can spend this unexpected windfall,” Long stated.

Petitions are available on the Party’s website and people are encouraged to download them or call 718-921-2158 for copies.  Chairmen around the state will be encouraged to distribute them to local gas stations in an effort to reach as many consumers as possible.

“New Yorkers need gas tax relief and the quickest way to accomplish it is by suspending the 4% gasoline sales tax,” concluded Long.
