Shaun Marie Levine Senator Harry Reid You Live in America: People are Innocent Until Proven Guilty Senator Harry Reid let his true political stripes seep through his message when he criticized President George W. Bush’s statement on Representative Tom DeLay’s guilt or innocence yesterday. The New York State Conservative Party sent the following letter to Senator Reid, reminding him that in America people are innocent until judged by a jury of their peers and convicted. _______________________________ December 16, 2005
Hon. Harry Reid Minority Leader U. S. Senate 528 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Reid: I have listened to your purely political rhetoric since you have become the Minority Leader of the United States Senate. Yesterday, you reached a new low. I am appalled that an elected leader of our Nation, responsible for the passage of critical legislation, who should certainly understand our Constitution, criticizing President George W. Bush regarding the guilt or innocence of U. S. Representative Tom DeLay. Last time I checked, in America, we are innocent until proven guilty. Your statement “The president of the United States announced that the jury need not assembly in Texas, that Tom DeLay is innocent. To have someone of his stature that is the president of the United States prejudge the facts on a case is something I’ve never heard of before. And here is a president who believes in law and order?” Obviously, your statement says volumes about what you truly think of American values. I find your statement contemptible. Very truly yours,
Michael R. Long State Chairman |
