Conservatives Testify on Stem Cell Research

Public Corporation Can Provide Hope. . .If Restructured

Ft. Hamilton Station, NY – State Chairman, Michael R. Long announced that the Conservative Party testified at today’s Public Hearing on the Executive Budget Proposals on Economic Development.

Members of the Legislature were urged to change the structure of the proposed Stem Cell and Innovated Fund Corporation and to reject any proposals for stem cell research that included experimentation and research on progenitor and pluripotent calls that are harvested from embryos.

In January, Chairman Long called on Members of the Legislature to use extreme caution when considering stem cell research.  Now that the executive budget has proposed the bill language defining the future of stem cell research in New York State, the Conservative Party urged Members to change the structure of the proposed corporation and to limit the research to what has been positive and proven.

The Conservative Party of New York State believes that there is a bright future in the medical field of ethical stem cell research.  We believe that government will play a role and more importantly should play a role in making it possible to cure or prevent many of the painful, heart wrenching health problems faced by ordinary people.  We believe that medical miracles have occurred and will continue -- as long as we respect what we all began as – the human embryo.
