The More Things Change. . .The More They Stay the Same

Ft. Hamilton Station, NY - Conservative Party Chairman, Michael R. Long, was bemused with all of the media attention that things would be changing in Albany under the new administration of Governor Eliot Spitzer.

Back in November, after the election, then Governor-Elect Eliot Spitzer announced that he will “unilaterally disarm” on campaign fundraising tactics to set a tone for political reform in New York. In fact, Governor Spitzer and Lt. Gov. Paterson, were willing to restrict campaign donations that they receive from individuals, partnerships, LLC, unions, PACS and other non-corporate entities to $10,000 even though the current limit is $50,100.

“You can certainly understand why I am bemused,” said Long when he learned of an intimate evening with Governor Eliot Spitzer tomorrow evening (January 18) at a private Manhattan home with a ticket minimum of $25,000 per couple.

Of course, the money is being raised for the New York State Democratic Committee and not the Governor himself, but how can anyone believe that “Day One” has changed anything with this type of fundraising taking place.

“The old adage is true…the more things change the more they stay the same,” Long concluded.
