LONG  TO  SPITZER:

FORGET DAY ONE -- CHANGE BEGINS NOW

Ft. Hamilton Station, NY – State Conservative Party Chairman, Michael R. Long, called on Eliot Spitzer to bring his much heralded campaign promise to change Albany on day one and begin today in light of the State Ethics report that Comptroller Alan Hevesi violated state law.

“This is not the first time Comptroller Hevesi violated the trust of New Yorkers, he was censured for doing the same thing as the New York City Comptroller, and Mr. Spitzer, if he is serious about making changes in Albany on day one, should do so today by calling for Mr. Hevesi to resign immediately,” Long stated.

“Mr. Hevesi’s wife’s illness is regrettable and the fact that she needed transportation is something that many New Yorkers can relate to, however, every other New Yorker can not hire a public employee to transport their family members. Now that the State Ethics Commission has found that he ‘knowingly and intentionally used his position as New York State Comptroller to secure unwarranted privileges for himself and his wife, and in doing so … violated public trust’ should be removed if he refuses to resign, said Long.

“Mr. Spitzer, don’t wait till day one…let us know today that this kind of blatant disregard of the law by a man whom you called “honest” will not be tolerated,” concluded Long.
