LONG  TO  MCFARLAND: FIRE  ROLLINS

Conservative Party State Chairman, Michael R. Long, sent the following letter to K. T. McFarland, calling on her to fire campaign manager, Ed Rollins, for his outrageous comments in this week’s New York Magazine. The letter follows:

Dear Mrs. McFarland:In the four decades I have been active in New York State politics, I don’t think I have ever seen one individual sling so much mud as Ed Rollins in his venom laced tirades against John Spencer.

He has spread disinformation, innuendo, and out-right lies in his ceaseless character assassination of a good and decent man

As a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, I am outraged by comments attributed to Ed Rollins in this week’s NEW YORK MAGAZINE.

On page 72 Mr. Rollins is quoted as saying: “There were so many guys getting killed in Vietnam that it wasn’t so difficult [for Spencer to be made first lieutenant]-and it wasn’t so difficult to get a Bronze Star,”

Not only is that statement outrageous, it is also disgraceful.

Don’t you understand that by saying those words he demeans everyone who served in Vietnam and more importantly he belittles everyone who holds the honor of being awarded a Bronze Star.

I don’t know about Ed Rollins…. but, in my family, I was taught to respect our military.

I don’t know if he served our country…but, in the Marine Corps, I was taught to honor those who were awarded a Bronze Star.

Mrs. McFarland, both Ed and you continually invoke the name of Ronald Reagan. As a Conservative, I ask you…. what would Ronald Reagan say about these words? How would he respond to the tone of your campaign?

You hired Ed Rollins.

Now, you should fire him.

Not reprimand him or make him apologize, because no words he could possibly counter the obvious contempt he holds for our veterans.

After you have fired Mr. Rollins you owe an apology to veterans and to those men and women currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States for the words he said while employed by your campaign.

Sincerely,

Michael R. Long

State Chairman
