Educational Income Tax Credit
Conservatives
Launch Drive to Get it Passed
Ft. Hamilton Station, NY – Conservative Party State
Chairman, Michael R. Long, launched the Party’s initiative, today, to
pass legislation this session to enact an educational income tax credit
for all parents who have children in kindergarten through the last year
of high school.
“The Conservative Party, has on its website (www.cpnys.org)
a petition
for people to sign and return to the Conservative Party calling for the
passage of S.1939A – Golden/A. 8203A – Lopez which would allow up to a
$3500 income tax credit for expenses incurred for the education of
children. Expenses would include necessary materials for those who home
school, tuition at non-public schools, tutoring or even a computer if it
is required,” said Long.
“Unlike other past proposals, the bill as written, complies with the
United States Supreme Court’s belief that the U. S. Constitution allows
for an educational tax credit since it is not a specific dollar amount
to a specific school,” Long stated.
“Educational choice is extremely important to today’s parents. Many
parents would prefer to send their children to a non-public school or
home school them, but simply cannot afford to do so. This bill, when
enacted, will give parents the ability to claim an income tax credit for
some of the costs involved in giving their children the best quality
education they can,” continued Long.
People are encouraged to
download the petition from the website or call
718-921-2158 for copies of the petition if they do not have access to a
computer. Chairmen around the state will also have copies for
distribution.
“For far too long, New York parents have struggled in giving their
children the best education possible, when enacted, this bill will help
to ease the financial burden,” Long concluded.
